Omar Villanueva besides his guitar training is also a solo singer that has been established a good reputation in New Mexico with his passionate style singing Mexican and Latin old and contemporary songs. His style is unique and pleasant to the audience. On His performances you can hear his voice along with his precise and brilliant guitar arrangements throughout a variety of Latin-American covers.
He started singing at very young age and has been recognized in competitions not only as guitarist but as a singer too.
Omar has been awarded in the next voice competitions (popular music):
• 1st place in the annual high school voice competition in 1996 (Matamoros Mex.)
• 1st place in the annual high school voice competition 1998 (Matamoros Mex.)
• 1st place in the "Best Young Singer of the City" 1997 (Matamoros Mex.)
• 3rd place in the annual high school voice competition 1997 (Matamoros Mex.)
• 2nd place at the New Mexico Expo Voice Competition 2005 (Albuquerque NM)
Omar is proudly one of the few Latin/Spanish Music singers that has been continuously active since he moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2003. He shares his music activity as music director of the premier trio " Los Amigos of New Mexico" and his Latin Band "Sabor Canela". He also teaches and perform Classical Guitar Music.
